16. Arrival

Older and wiser and older
Blinking out into the light
Will someone be at our shoulder
Meet us when we alight?

Will it be a homecoming?
Are they ready for the guest?
The great triumphant chorus humming
Are we ready for the rest?

Is it better to travel in hope
Than to risk reaching anywhere?
Does moving on mean that we better cope
Make the giving up easier?

Ending far from beginning
And yet surprisingly near
Here and there forever twinning
And becoming more unclear

Older and wiser and older
Wanting the time of our lives
To be the last ticket holder
On the ride that won’t arrive
