14. Stepping down

The ripples sent out from our lives
Moving gently away
Where and when they arrive
No longer ours to say

The intangible mark that we make
Cannot be controlled
Twists and turns and mistakes
By others will be told

Stepping down – did we make a difference
Stepping down – to others on this train
Stepping down – did we keep a distance
Stepping down – never this journey again

The reminder of what we once were
Gathers Solomon dust
No time for us to stir
In history we must trust

Those who have travelled before
Are calling us again
And as we make our way to the door
We move from now to then

One small seed of hard love sown
Keep us cool in heaven unknown
