9. Starstruck

Starstruck it was just how I’d dreamed
Fate spoke and decisively deemed
All the sadness now was redeemed
It was more than I ever expected
Feel the zeal of the initiate
Why would I no longer wait?
We laughed long to celebrate
The song of the no more rejected

We had faith in common
We had work in common
We had writing in common
We had common in common
We had love in common
We had friends in common
We had art in common
Common in common in common

Partnered up and we now had a face
In from exile without a trace
Now seen in a state of grace
While we in the rapture floated
Justified and it now made sense
The cold years’ sure recompense
And up sprang the walls of defence
Without them being noted

We believed that love conquered all
Let it lead us into its thrall
Didn’t want to hear the future call
Safe in our inner existence
In the sun we sat and we basked
Was there anything left unmasked?
And the questions never got asked
As we rode off in the distance
