8. Transfixed

This is not the first time I’ve pictured you
And it won’t be the last
For I cannot throw off all the guilt
I’ve gathered in a troubled past

What was I thinking, when do I ever
Twice it was I took your hand
Touching faith or untold indulgence
'Love will bind across the land'

Now I stand transfixed with wonder
At the arrogance at my behest
See me bluster blind and blunder
Be my girlfriend, be my guest

Is there a place where we can talk and
Salve the pain of broken ends?
Where I can tell how much I liked you
Stupid to be more than friends

It’s no surprise you’ve never trusted
Men and brave hearts bearing gifts
Off he goes when done and dusted
And never through the wreckage sifts

I will always feel your heartbreak
How I ruined everything
How the heartless don’t stay to ponder
Long time after start to sing
