2. Running

Awake from a sleep, enjoying the air
Found a new family, strength from elsewhere
Flexing my muscles, becoming aware

End of a party, we fashioned a kiss
Had all of our youth been waiting for this?
Running around in another one’s bliss

Picked up neglected, my shame fills these years
Looked past rejected, these still are my tears
What were you doing you stupid bright boy?
Left you pursuing a new shiny toy

Running on air, adrenaline rich
You were a sideshow, filling a niche
So many around you were easy to ditch

Along with the hormones, the spiritual highs
No time for the worldly, breaking the ties
Heading for glory, deaf to your cries

Put on a show and laugh helplessly
Trying to hide that you drift breathlessly
Telling yourself that you want to be free

Pumped up inflated, my pride knew no bounds
Lay down prostrated, let’s sing holy sounds
Not thinking just hurting, you smile and move on
Diverting deserting, be handsome be gone
