11. Stronger

There was danger abroad for this creature
Held by the moving headlights
Beaten down, afraid for the future
Bruised by his fantasy flights
But you coaxed me out of my hole in the corner
I showed my tear-bestrewn face
If there was pity mixed with the patience
Well I didn’t see a trace

Did you know what on earth you were taking
When the stranger limped into view?
Did you feel our lives remaking
Or were you doing the best that you knew?
And I kid myself it was my inspiration
Sowed the seed in the ground
But deeper yet was your inner vision
Stood me up, turned me around

Calmly you accepted negotiated
Helped me with burdens untold
Stepped through the tatters of my life unstated
Warmed me when I was left cold
When I needed strength you were stronger
As wounded I struggled on
Fixed points fixed for no longer
You were there when all else had gone

And you know I look on the dark side
Filled with my personal gloom
But you bring me out on the far side
Give me faith and give me room
And you cut through the self-occupation
And welcome the prodigal back
See the truth and are ready to speak it
Send me out back on track
