7. A Shadow

I grew tired of the waiting
As I drifted by the shore
The honour bound anticipating
I was hungry for some more
It was in truth I saw a shadow
Edging closer to the sea
All abandoned straight and narrow
Let it see the truth in me

Mother earth went on rotating
With the waves of brother moon
They push me into understating
No really I’ll be ready soon
I see the thermal lark ascending
The shadow shifts across the sands
Running shouting life depending
Crying from beneath my hands

I will not forfeit my reason
Just give the four winds all full rein
For every dog will have its season
And all creatures feel the rain
The shadow moves me to inviting
One more of its hollow days
In before the tempest biting
My memory on the beaches sways

As I tread my meek way homeward
I still smell the sand and spray
Excitement carried in the foam would
Lead me through a few more days
If the shadow is for catching
I may need another soul
It’s diving soaring snatching
Will I ever be found whole?
