4. House of Light

You may turn a corner and may catch a sight
Of a welcome house, transfigured night
Your pulse and step quicken as you celebrate the light
Your heart is warmed

You’ll not give a thought to how it got there
Of the pain and toil and sweat you will not care
Yet as you race towards it you sing aloud a prayer
Your heart is warmed

When we are brought in by others
Our universe expands
All of those unknown sisters brothers
Their strength is in our hands
Then we can shine for others
And they too in their turn
The light is multiplying
And will forever burn

This house of light is standing and will for ages stand
As a monument to help unplanned
And as we gather closer we begin to understand
Our hearts are warmed

All is dark and quiet now as we lay down to rest
The light is shining on for others blest
Drawing in the stranger who becomes the welcome guest
Your heart is warmed
