3. I knew a girl

I knew a girl who was not very old
Eyes open wide believing all she was told
Fairy tales and bedtime stories, everything was real
Magic was something she could feel

Befriending all taking everyone’s hand
Love in her face they could not misunderstand
Tears were only temporary like a summer shower
Sunshine was back within the hour

But she has gone and I have taken her place
Two different people behind the same face
Everyone tells me that I must have changed
They never let me stay the same

If only I knew where that young girl has gone
I’d leave this old world and I’d follow along
Away from the pain and the things that never last
Back to the joys of my past
