6. Your life

Feelings come and feelings go
You haven’t really much to show
You never thought it would be so
In your life

There was a time when you would dream
Life was simple so it seemed
Happiness was to be the theme
Of your life

But somewhere along the line
Things didn’t turn out that fine
You found yourself accepting second best
You would love all mankind
But the papers that you signed
Made you act like one of the rest

To your own self you would still be true
But you had to get on, you had to get through
And in the end this emptied you
Of your life

You remember all your friends
They’d be faithful to the end
I wonder what they really meant
In your life

You taught your children a morality
About truth and honesty
They never learned for they could see
Your life

No-one can say you haven’t tried
You long to be satisfied
You want something to call your own
Take the world for another joy-ride
Let them see your more acceptable side
But in the end you’re still on your own

You’ve got your own philosophy
I’ll do to you as you do to me
Why then is there such misery
In your life

Oh yes, but there were good times too
You learnt to laugh along right on cue
And you would pretend you knew
About life

So there you stand a sight to engage
A modern person, come of age
There’s only one thing you would change
Your life
